Can I use SendGrid only to Receive Email?
We'd like to use SendGrid simply to validate email addresses from a mobile app. Our app would open the native email iPhone client and send us an email with a code generated by the app. We would like to receive that email and verify the code to our server. Does SendGrid offer this type of receive-only service?

we do. You can sign up for a free account, then use our Parse API to convert emails sent from the iphones to posts on your website.
Even on free accounts, there aren't any limits on the number of emails we'll receive & post for.-
Glenn Ferguson April 01, 2011 20:22Does this require pointing the mx record to sendgrid or is it possible to forward specific email account to sendgrid and receive the parse(d) as a POST? In otherwords, I have an existing email service but desire only the parse to POST capability for specific email addressesEditDeleteRemove

you have to setup a mx record for the sendgrid to receive email for parsing. The mx record can be for any domain or subdomain. So in this case you can create a subdomain with a mx record pointing to sendgrid, and forward the email address to the subdomain.
So if parseme@example.com gets delivered to you regular mail server, you just need to make it an alias for parseme@sendgrid.example.com.
sendgrid.example.com's mx record should be mx.sendgrid.net. Add sendgrid.example.com here: http://sendgrid.com/developer/reply along with the post url and you're done.-
Thanks David, this is helpful. I created a free account in order to begin testing with the service but the account was not provisioned because I have not released my site yet (questions of intent which are understandable).
I'm corresponding with support in hopes of alleviating any concerns. I appreciate your response. -

You can contact us via live chat, we've been known to make exceptions for site's that aren't quite ready yet- but it's always on a case by case basis

I'm using a UMTS Webcam that sends me some email with image attachments. The email goes to my defined controller action (post request). How I can secure the action? I want to know that this request comes from sendgrid and the email adress configured in the web backend from the umts camera?
Thanks-

How about this?
My email are provided by google apps, I want my user to be able to post data to a particular email address.
mydomain.com MX ghs.google.com
sendgrid.mydomain.com MX sendgrid.com
Google Apps mail creates a user "post"
post@mydomain.com
Setup auto forwarding for all incoming mail to "post@sendgrid.mydomain.com"
post@sendgrid.mydomain.com
is this going to work?-
I'm have the same situation with my app. Would also be interested to know the answer.

@Taylor Luk: What's your development tool or programming language? I could give you a solution for rails 2/3.

I believe the Parse API is not available to free user's anymore? It is available to only silver plan or higher?
Any plans to release it as a separate paid service?-
Seems you can still use the Parse API as a free user - http://community.sendgrid.com/sendgri...
