Messages marked as Delivered, but not actually received by addressee

My email activity report shows many messages (to several separate addresses within the same domain) as Delivered, yet none of these recipients have actually seen the emails. The report shows them as all Delivered, but none are showing as Open. Any thoughts?

  • If email activity/event api show the message as "delivered", it means the remote mail server for the recipients domain has accepted the message for delivery.

If the mail server accepts a message, it's supposed to either deliver or bounce the message. In practice there are a couple of good reason why you want to silently drop the message instead, most of the reasons are for preventing backscatter spam. Sometimes broken mail servers and overeager spam filters will drop messages for not so good reasons. If you open a support ticket with us about this mail domain, we can try to contact their mail administrator to resolve the issue
